Care for
Your Spoon.
Made to be used. Made to last. A few simple habits will keep your handcrafted wooden spoon looking and feeling its best for years to come.
Natural hardwood · Thoughtful care · Everyday use

Four simple steps.
Wood is a natural material. Gentle cleaning, thorough drying, and occasional conditioning are all it needs.
Wash by hand.
Use warm water, a little mild dish soap, and a soft sponge after each use.
Dry promptly.
Wipe with a towel, then allow the spoon to air-dry completely before storing.
Refresh the finish.
When the wood looks dry or feels rough, apply a food-contact-safe wood conditioner as directed.
Use it often.
Your spoon is made for cooking, serving, and the little rituals of everyday life.

Keep the wood nourished.
We use selected Walrus Oil finishing products in our workshop. For ongoing spoon maintenance, choose a product specifically labeled for food-contact wooden utensils, such as Walrus Oil Cutting Board Oil, and follow its directions.
Apply only when the wood needs it. Wipe away excess product and allow the spoon to be ready for use according to the product label.
A few things to remember.
Do this
- Hand-wash soon after cooking.
- Dry thoroughly before putting away.
- Store in a dry, ventilated place.
- Recondition when the wood looks thirsty.
- Enjoy the natural patina that develops over time.
Avoid this
- Dishwashers and prolonged soaking.
- Leaving your spoon sitting in water.
- Microwaves, ovens, or open flames.
- Extended exposure to extreme heat.
- Cooking oils such as olive oil for conditioning; they can become rancid.
Every mark tells a story.
With use, your spoon may deepen in color and develop a softer sheen. That's part of its character. If the grain feels slightly raised after washing, let it dry fully and smooth it gently with very fine sandpaper before applying an appropriate food-safe finish.
Pieces from our Mariemont Preserved collection carry a little more history: locally salvaged wood, thoughtfully made useful again.
The trees are gone. Their stories live on.
Explore Table + BoneSpoon care, simplified.
Can my wooden spoon go in the dishwasher?
No. Dishwasher heat, prolonged moisture, and harsh detergents can dry, warp, or crack wood. Hand-wash instead.
How often should I oil my spoon?
There is no fixed schedule. Condition it when it looks dry or feels rough, following the care product's instructions.
What if my spoon feels fuzzy after washing?
Raised grain is a normal wood response to moisture. Let the spoon dry completely, gently smooth the surface with very fine sandpaper if needed, and refresh the food-safe finish.
Can I leave it in a simmering pot?
Use it for stirring and serving, but avoid leaving it submerged in hot liquid or resting against a hot pan for extended periods.
